Digital Divide

Digital Divide, the difference between those who have access to the computer and internet and those who do not. When you think about digital divide what comes to mind? Poverty, educational, social inequalities, which means the division between those who have or those who can’t. To give you a few examples of digital divide, I’ll start with the current events of the (COVID-19) coronavirus pandemic, created such a huge burden on people who are less fortunate. Many people were displaced out of jobs or school. People with very low income were required to remain at home for a long period of time, students and parents had to work at home and attend school remotely. Some living so tight with money that they didn’t have the means to have an extra bill like and it being an internet bill. I believe the current pandemic hit digital divide it really set apart on the poor and wealthy. It’s also safe to say that it takes a large role on special inequalities, you were able to see the struggles and differences in social class.

When it comes to democratic divide the first think that pops into my mind is political views. As I was reading the articles of called From the digital Divide to the Democratic Divide: Internet Skills, Political Interest, and the Second Level Digital Divide in Political Internet Use. The way I impetrated this article is that democratic divide is this the way people can bring many different people through the uses the internet for different political purposes. The internet is vast, and it spread so easily and how people decided to use it can be concerning. (Min. S, 2010) The existence of the democratic divide, to any extent, poses an important social question. Under the concept of the democratic divide, according to Norris, the Internet mainly serves to reinforce the activism of the activists, facilitating participation for those who are already interested in politics; whereas those who are disengaged from the politics of the real world may further lag behind in the digital world. Democratic Divide from my view is just different perspectives from people it could be good or terrible thing it just depend how you use it because you can easily be influential by someone else. Since I’m not too familiar about this subject, I would need to do more research about it.
