Multimedia Application Examples

Businessman touching hand-drawn multimedia presentation with his finger on blurred background

Creating a multimedia project is not hard at all. It may seem overwhelming due to the fact that there is a vast amount of software to use. All you need is a computer, software, and creativity. Creating a multimedia project is like a puzzle, it is important to stay organize and work in sections so you know what applications you would want to use for your project. When working on multimedia it is important, to begin with writing the content of what you want on your multimedia. This will help you design your picture and help you decide what software’s to use. The software is an important aspect of your project because the software tells your computer what to do.

As I work on my multimedia project assignment, I felt good. Having different options gives you an opportunity to explore software and does not limited you to what you can use. With all these options, it gives me a chance to work on my creativity. It empowers me to work even more on my ideas. Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming but staying organized will help you with your ideas. All the options that were provided to me were good because they gave me a chance to think of what I can use .it was a great starting point to designing a multimedia media project. There are many applications that can be used. For instance, you can use video, audio, stock photos, and animations for your project. In addition to working on my project, I came upon some products that will help me with my multimedia. Prezi is an application that gives me the opportunity to add these elements to my multimedia project. What I like about this application is that it is easy to use and you can even incorporate your voice as your audio, add pictures seamlessly, and your written ideas can easily be added to the Prezi application. What is cool about the Prezi is that you can also use animation on it.

When it comes to stock photos, PowerPoint is something to consider. It gives you a chance to look online within the PowerPoint application and it is easy to insert. It also has a section where you can use your voice to record your narration and you can also add animations. There are many things you can do with PowerPoint once you get familiar with it.

Another application I came upon is Freepik.com. I like this application because it gives you a vast amount of vector images to choose from and you can reshape them exactly how you want to use them and you can actually have the vectors make movements like walking, waving, jumping, and even talking.

Panopto is another application that you can use to record yourself and you can even use animations and images while you talk. I can see teachers and instructors incorporating this by recording your lesson and adding images to engage your students in your presentation. Panopto is another application to consider when planning your lessons.

Toon Boom Harmony is an animation application that is friendly and easy to use. You can actually incorporate any type of stye of 2D or 3D animation.  It even tells you how fast you want animation to be. This software offers many tools and features that makes your project come to life.

In addition to these applications, I found two more that were pretty interesting. One is called Pencil 2D. This application is free and is an open source which allows you add features, and you can even add vectors and audio effects that focus on your animation as well. The second application that I really love is Cartoon Animator. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, this application is right for you because it allows you to choose from a vast collection and apply different movements to your animations. You can also add color, lip and facial syncing, and it is easy to file.

Overall, any application that you use will make your presentation come to life. I will provide some videos that can help you better understand how to use each one of the applications I talked about on this paper.

Learning Apps/Resources to Improve Learning

concepto de ocio, niños, educación, tecnología y personas - niño sonriente con tablet pc y portátil en casa con doodles matemáticos

Learning is a process and is happening all the time. It is unique to each individual. Each student has their own way of processing information. It is important for the teacher to be able to help and motivate students to allow them to achieve their learning goals. There is a variety of different ways to help students and teachers. Consider the Universal Design Learning framework that teachers can use, followed by three learning application resources that could students improve learning.

So, what is Universal Design Learning (UDL). Universal Design Learning is a framework that help guides teachers with their diverse class. UDL helps decrease barriers and improve learning. Universal means curriculum that can be used and understood by everyone and learning is the recognition of the what, how, and the why of learning (UDL at a glance ,2010). UDL provide multiple means of representation such as presenting content and information in multiple media, providing varied supports, using graphics and animation, highlighting the critical features, activating background knowledge, and supporting vocabulary so that students can acquire the knowledge being taught.

Now that you know a bit of what is UDL, what are some learning application resources that can help students improve their learning? One example is called Snaptype. This learning application is allowing students to take pictures of their homework and have the opportunity to type in the answers instead of writing it. It also helps you create different folders for different subjects. You can also customize a colored background. It also allows them to type their answers instead of writing and it helps fill in the gaps for struggling writers. In my opinion this learning application follows the UDL guidelines. It motivates students by giving them an opportunity to engage in learning, helps students think how the information can be presented, help express themselves fluently, and can reflect on their comprehension and understanding.

Another learning application is Google Classroom. This application is good for students and teachers because you can actually see the teacher live and you can see all the work that the teacher provides. Not only that, the teacher can give you feedback instantly such as sharing files between the students. Google Classroom can be engaging but the teacher needs to provide a motivation to the students and make sure the information is presented correctly and effectively, so that the students can express themselves fluently when interacting with themselves and the teacher. This application is good because it requires an interaction with the teacher.

The last learning application is called Read and Write. I believe this is a wonderful application that can be added to computers. This software is good for students to use because it builds their confidence on learning and on understanding the lesson materials. This application can read to you, highlight words, and contains text to speech, and dictionaries with both text and pictures. This application does so much for students and helps them with their learning styles.

Overall these learning applications are useful for students and teachers. I will provide some videos below of what each learning application does.

Integrating Technology into the Classroom (TPACK)

Concepto de estrategia de empresa de integración de interacción

Technology is ever evolving. With the evolving of technology out in the world, the education system is doing its best to catch up. However, with all the evolving and growing, are we truly caught up with all the available technology? This pandemic has taught everyone the importance of integrating technology into learning. This past year students had to learn how to use the computer not just for their leisure but also for online learning. With this new integration of technology, will learning change? To integrate technology into a classroom a teacher must be well rounded and present, if its either face to face or zoom, however that is only half the battle, students also must be involved. What are some methods that could help incorporate technology in a classroom?

Let us take a dive into what we might know or may not know and why we are behind when it comes to the use of technology. It can be many factors, one example can be a lack of confidence, another example is inadequate professional development and training as the primary obstacle to using technology productively in classroom (Youki Terada, 2020). How can technology be incorporated into learning but also be engaging and fun? Integrating technology can be used in different ways to increase learning with the use of a computer, iPad, smart phone etc. Some technology tools that can be used are blogs, video, canvas, audio and many more. Some of the software that can be used for educational purposes are Khan Academy, Study Blue and Ted Talks, and these are just to name of few.

Another example I would like to use on how to integrate technology into a classroom is called TPACK. TPACK is a framework that supports the teacher with the content, pedagogy and technology. Meaning it helps guide the teacher to reflect on what she knows, how to teach and how technology can be used. The content is based on the proficiency of what the teacher knows, and it can be from theories, concepts and facts. The pedagogical is where you will show your expertise of teaching and technological is your knowledge on how to use the technology tool (Introduction to the TPACK model, 2020).

Technology content knowledge means that you are using (TCK) for deeper understanding. Technology pedagogy knowledge (TPK is how to use technology with your students and content, pedagogical and technological help design lesson (Introduction to the TPACK model, 2020).

Technology took over the world and is being used every single day and has grown and will continue to grow rapidly. Will it bring positive effects on students? Will this change the way students learn? In my own humble opinion, yes, technology has a way of bringing students and teachers together. Learning applications and learning technology tools also play a vital role when it comes to learning.

What can we do for students and teachers after COVID?

La era post-covid-19 en concepto de negocios e inversión. Nueva fase y oportunidad para los empresarios e inversores después del fin de la pandemia del covid-19. ¿Qué sucederá después de Covid-19?

It is fair to say that the world was not ready for the pandemic we are living in today. This past year was difficult for everyone. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us how to cope and figure out solutions in all work fields. The pandemic took on a major impact on the education field and stakeholders. However, the world keeps on moving with the use of technology. The education system still has an immense of work to do but with the advances in technology, solutions can be found almost instantaneously. Consider this, teachers and students were not prepared to learn and teach online, nor did parents know how to help their children online. Keep in mind that we, as a community, have parents that are not educated and are limited in resources. So, what have we learned from this? We learned that we need to teach the students the importance of technology and to do this, the students must be taught from a young age. Teaching students to be digital literate and good digital citizens is vital. Helping and training teachers with the use of technology and giving them more access to resources to use, so they can implement good teaching. Studies have shown that Americans from low income can transition into new emerging jobs if provided with the right skills. (World Economic Forum, 2021) This can be done by filling the gap that students need to succeed in this technological world everyone is living in. (World Economic Forum, 2021), believes that these four conditions can help students that are equal access to education and skills training, adequate, reliable internet access for all, private and public sector collaboration and commitment of leadership.

In addition to the many challenges’ teachers faced keeping the students engage in online learning. (Reimaging higher education: The post -covid classroom, 2021), believes the past year we have learned that solely hosting lectures as online meetings is leaving some students behind and leaving many yearning for the rich campus experiences that fostered learning in and out of the classroom. According to the post -covid classroom, 2021, they found that 60 percent of faculty witnessed a drop in engagement as students struggled to stay focused, and that 70 percent of faculty are concerned about their ability to deliver engaging, high-value learning experiences. This is what has suffered the most as a result of COVID-19. Without a strong sense of community, students are struggling to keep up academically.

We are still unsure what will happen in the future, but one thing we need for everyone to have is a strong community in every state. By having a strong community, where everyone works together as a team and collaborates, we can have the students succeed. We know how it was before this pandemic and we know what we have to do to make it work for our future students. I believe, the key point is working together, being united and teaching our students the life skills they need, to survive in any work field they go into. Benjamin Franklin said, Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn” and that is exactly what we need to do.

Being Future Ready

Educación electrónica o concepto de enciclopedia en línea. Abrir la compilación de laptops y libros en un aula. 3.ª ilustración

To begin with, not everyone is born with a sliver spoon and life is hard enough when you don’t not have an education. 70 years ago, a high school diploma was just good, but you actually need to have a collage degree to get paid well. Nowadays you need more than just a college degree you need to have life skill and most important you need to know how to use technology. This pandemic has taught the world the importance of being digital literate. Which not many people are, preparing stakeholder is vital so they can be successful in this 21st -century digital world we live on.

Being “future ready” is when you prepare for successful school districts and educators. Thinking ahead and preparing students for college ensures that they are ready to conquer the future and be successful. In 2014, the White House passed a pledge for future ready for students Future Ready District Pledge commit to foster and lead a culture of digital learning in their district and to share what they have learned with other districts (Future Ready,2017). TEA believes that it is vital for teachers, school staff, and even students themselves to ensure that they gain and apply critical 21st Century digital knowledge and skills.  In addition, TEA provides two goals to help our students succeed in any work field. The first goal is called “Technology Literacy” and it states, “Assist every student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring that every student is technology literate by the time the student finishes the eighth grade, regardless of the student's race, ethnicity, gender, family income, geographic location, or disability”. The state defines a “technology literate” student as one who has mastered the Technology Applications TEKS for grades K-8 (19 TAC, Chapter 126). The second goal of TEA is called, “Curriculum Integration”, and it states, “Ensure ongoing integration of technology into school curricula and instructional strategies in all schools in the State so that technology will be fully integrated into the curricula and instruction of the schools”.

In conclusion, I believe TEA has two very strong goals to strive for. Having to apply these two goals to the education system can help our future students succeed. We live in a world that is full of technology and even though we have children that are digitally native, there is still many of us that are still not fully digital literate. If students learned how to use the technology tools, along with also knowing how to apply traditional learning, this will help them develop life learning skills to succeed in any work field in the 21st century.

How Does Multimedia Assist With Learning?

Concepto de audiolibro. libro con botón de juego aislado en fondo azul pastel. estilo minimalista. Representación 3d

Learning is being able to recall information and is a lifelong process. Learning happens in all different stages of life. Students can acquire learning by gaining knowledge, skills, and behavior. One way students can learn is through multimedia. Mayer & Moreno, (2002), believes the learner could understand more consistently when animation was used correctly with respect of the cognitive theory of multimedia learning. Jamet, (2014), believes learning can be enhanced by cues, this is evident when a student is directed to a certain area of information at a specific time. This led me to believe the concept of using multimedia is true. One multimedia source I have used personally and has help in the past, which in my opinion it incorporates many of the Mayer’s Principles is Khan Academy. Also, the school district where my children are currently attending to has also provided them with a link to use Khan Academy for a deeper understanding of the content.

In addition, it is imperative to create a deeper understanding of learning since there are different types of learners, it is vital to have many kinds of learning materials that will be essential for the students and adult learning. How does multimedia relate to pedagogy and andragogy? It is simple, all three provide support to the learner and it by an instructional or educator. Mayer’s (2014), believes, multimedia it is a way of learning and it is done by using picture and words and graphics. Multimedia uses audio, video, images, scripts, and many more elements. Pedagogy is a teaching method that teaches different content and students rely on the teacher. Andragogy is a teaching strategy that helps adult learning gain experiences, and it is also done by a teacher. What they have in common is that all three need an educator to implement learning.

After reading the articles, it gave me a better understanding of how to use multimedia in a classroom. This will give me the confidence to apply it to my future career. I will provide two articles links blow called “An eye-tracking study of cueing effects in multimedia learning” and “Animation as an Aid to Multimedia Learning” for future reference.

Media Design

For this assignment, I got the opportunity to pick between two media design assignments. One was to create an infographic and the second choice was to create a personal logo brand. The choice I decided to go for was to create a personal brand logo, which was exciting for me. I have been in the beauty industry since I was 17 years old and I have recently received my certification for an eyelash tech. I would like to, in the near future, open a business with my sisters. Our business will include eyelash extensions and pedicures. With that being said, this article was an introduction to me gaining some knowledge on designing a logo for a brand. I still need to learn more about designing because this a new field that I am going into and the hardest thing, in my opinion, was getting started on how to create a logo or any type of design. What I found helpful was the application called Canva, this website helps me to create my logo and can also help with you create an infographic which I excited to learn about. Moving on, one of the easy steps and the most enjoyable for me was working with the imagery, color, text, space, and creating a balance on how the logo will come out. The overall experience in creating a logo was exciting for me.

SCORM

Un hombre se relaja sentado en el sofá de casa con una laptop y estudia en línea. Estilo retro isométrico. Vector EPS10.

In today’s world, technology is a crucial part of our everyday lives, especially in the education field. The learning system has change over the years and will continue to evolve even more. With technology changing by the minute, software developers are already working on their individual projects in hopes for it to become the next big learning software. This week readings, an article that caught my eye was entitled, “Getting Started With SCORM”, by Christian Grainsbrugh. My initial thought before reading was, “What exactly is SCORM?”

SCORM is an acronym that stand for shareable, content, object, refence, and model (Grainsbrugh, 2013). SCORM is a form of an eLearning system and has been here for a while. SCORM is a package that comes with course tools and works with learning management systems, LMS, and application programing interfaces, API. It is very vital for SCORM to communicate with LMS so it can record the data from the trainee or students. The way SCORM communicate is easy and is done through a Java scrip, an API (Grainsbrugh, 2013). SCORM is a program that has codes and transfers information to a LMS and API and can track the learner’s results, how long it took them to complete the work, and what score they got. It also knows your name, progress, and attendance. SCORM also communicates with the API and sends requests to the LMS. It is very important for all three programs to coincide with one another.

The API also performs other functions which are titled as LMSlnitialize, LMSSetValue, LMSGetValue, LMSCommit, LMSFinish, LMSGetErrorString, LMSGetLastError, and LMSGetDiagnostic. They also come with a descriptive name that gives you an idea of the purpose. (Grainsbrugh, 2013). Some facts that I learned about SCORM was that it was invented 16 years ago before SCORM 1.0, SCORM has helped with standardize eLearning, SCORM also helps the learning management system and learning content work together. A good learning system means you don’t need SCORM and SCORM is not over yet (Anderson ,2016).

Since technology is always improving, software and technology applications will also need some type of adjustment. SCORM will constantly be updated to fit in our education. There is still more that I need to learn from SCORM so I may be more fluent on it as being familiar with SCORM will help me in my future career.
