Why Hasn’t Good Technology Integration Occurred in Education?
There can be many factors why technology hasn’t occurred in education. Not having the digital skills or digital literacy are just a few examples. Fear of not knowing how to implement technology into the curriculum. Once the world got hit with this pandemic, many including schools have discovered how important technology is.
Barriers
Technology has not been a huge focus on the education system. The barriers that the school system has, for example (Aiyegbayo et al.2018) educators seem reluctant to embrace or even to adopting technology in their classroom. Barriers include reduced amount of face-to-face interaction with family and students, lack of faculty support and privacy concerns. Could this be the only reasons technology has not been integration into schools, it has to be more to this. I believe that sometimes we get stuck in a same pattern and don’t want to change. This is because the fear of not knowing if it will work, but how will we know if it works or not if we don’t try to learn it the correct way. I Believe that if educators don’t have the proper training, they are not going to feel 100 percent when it comes to teaching technology. If educators don’t know how to use the tools of technology and the lack of understanding the proper use of technology, how they can teach our students. (Aiyegbayo et al.2018) Faculty who are not comfortable with technology in the classroom may experience confusion, intimidation and frustration, while in turn frustration and confusing the learner.
(Okojie,Olinzock,&Okojie -Boulder,2006) Bosch & Cardinale (1993) maintain that while it is important for teachers to be provided with technological skill, it is also important to educate them on how to use that skill to support learning.
I strongly believe that teachers need to get the proper training to teach our future digital learners, there are many ways a teacher can incorporate technology but first teacher need to understand the pedagogy principles (Okojie,Olinzock,&Okojie -Boulder,2006) most educators have not address the pedagogy principals that will guide their use of technology for teaching and learning. Having a strong communication, positive environment, engaging with students, variety of visual materials and support from school and families can go a long way to success for the learner when it comes to working with technology.
